A Special Thank You!
Written by Neon

First I would like to give a special BIG THANK YOU to our webmaster for helping this site evolve to where it has evolved.  It was not easy working with someone who has limited technical knowledge and simply gives the command that “I want this or need that” So thank you webmaster for your creativity and technological abilities.  Also thank you to his assistant who answers my questions calmly and walks me through things of which I have no understanding.  And who helps fix things after I mess them up.

Thank you also to all my children and my husband who have encouraged and supported me to do this site and who have been helping me get the word out about it.  Thank you for your understanding of the urgency of a site such as this and all those in the links and all those on the web.

Thank you to friends who have been supportive and are trying to get out news of this website.  A special ^5 to my roomies at AOL.  We have all been struggling with the issues of the day and we have supported each other though difficult times.

Thank you to all who have and will sign up to get the vote out!

The Big WHY.

The Big WHY!

Recently I was privileged to meet a most dynamic octogenarian.  She wore a rainbow poncho, had shiny bright blue eyes, un-botoxed skin, and a glow and energy I wish I had or will have at some point in my life.  She was circulating a petition to stop the development of nuclear plants.  I told her about this website and we began to talk.  As we talked I found that she had served in the military in WWll.  While a little left of my political leanings we were able to converse civilly and exchange our thoughts on opposing issues.  What an exhilarating discussion we had.  It was a wonderful sharing of ideas between the generations.  As we discussed the upcoming election, sadness altered her glowing face and she said “I am 82 years old.  Since I have been voting I have always had to vote for the least of two evils.  Will this ever change?”  Sadness befell me as well.  We both understood why things had not changed over time.  Ringing in the recesses of my brain about the situation was a ringing of WHY were things as usual?

Why do we still have candidates that force us to choose the least of two evils?

Why do we have corrupt elections?

Why do we fear that an election will be fixed either by machine or by human intent?

Why is there no public financing of campaigns so that all who want to run can?

Why not eliminate lobbies and corporate financing?

Why are there more voting problems in minority and lower inome areas?

Why do people receive phone calls with lies about candidates?

Why did people receive threatening letters warning them not to vote if they are naturalized Latino citizens because they will be arrested ?

Why did congress and the media turn a blind, sometimes mocking, eye to complaints that there were big problems and corruption in the 2000 and 2004 elections?

Why is the FCC a political committee rather than a watchdog for democracy?

Why in 2006 are there such hateful, lying, and racist political ads?

Why does one party block another from being heard, by not inviting them to committee meetings, or not allowing them to have hearings on human and civil rights denial?

Why are so many people so disenfranchised that they do not want to vote?

Why do so many people feel that their vote won’t count because of corruption at the polls?

Close your ears and read the voting records

I have observed many a politician say one thing and yet vote another way.  The lasting affect is what one hears rather than the knowledge of the way a vote has been cast.  It is for this reason that I ask you to read the way an individual has voted.  Understand that often we are told what we want to hear; and, that is the lasting affect.  Many a politican speaks as though they have a sympathetic empathy to the needs of the masses but in fact votes againt the best interest of the average individual.

I have often watched a politician take a stand which seems contrary to their normal voting pattern.  This is a deception and is an intentionally misleading move when the vote is sure to pass opposite of what the individual is professing as his/her views.  This way the individual looks good and appeals to other factions without sacrificing their true policies.

The following sites will let you read how individuals are voting and who is watching out for ALL of us.   We need to be alert at all times and let OUR representatives know  how we feel about their statements and voting practices.  Provided are links to the voting in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.  Unfortuantely too many representatives control our daily survival; and the welfare of the general society suffers while they fill their coffers and increase the bank accounts of a few.    OUR representitives must do what they are elected for and that is to REPRESENT US and ensure our general welfare!!

Abraham Lincoln said " If all men were just, there still would be some, though not so much, need of government."  He also said "In the early days of the world, the Almighty said to the first of our race "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread"; and since then, if we except the light and the air of heaven, no good thing has been, or can be enjoyed by us, without having first cost labour. And inasmuch [as] most good things are produced by labour, it follows that [all] such things of right belong to those whose labour has produced them. But it has so happened in all ages of the world, that some have labored, and others have, without labour, enjoyed a large proportion of the fruits. This is wrong, and should not continue. To [secure] to each laborer the whole product of his labour, or as nearly as possible, is a most worthy object of any good government.

YOU are the master of your fate!

Following is the poem Invictus.  Invictus means invincible.  Read the poem and understand that your will is strong, in unity there is strength, and the “only thing to fear is fear itself.”  Speak softly but gain knowledge about what is going on around us and help make things better.  Our Democratic Republic which we all think of as invincible could be in trouble.  New laws stand to test the survival of the constitution.  Everyone regardless of party affiliation loves this country and the beacon of light it has been to the whole world in terms of human and civil rights.  We are at a cross roads to the survival of what has made America a great nation.  Please read some of the links about voter problems and other legal problems that beset the survival of our constitution.   Understand that only when we unite and stand together to ensure the continuance of our great democracy can we ensure a positive future for all.  YOUR involvement helps everyone.  When you vote you vote as if the whole country is in the booth with you.  It is up to YOU to motivate people and alert them to what is happening in our country.  We need large numbers turning out at the polls so that a true representation of the desires of Americans is heard.

YOU ARE THE" MASTER OF YOUR SOUL!"  YOU CAN MAKE SURE THAT BALANCE IS RESTORED TO OUR CONGRESS!  TAKE CONTROL!!!  YOU CAN BRING VOTERS TO THE POLLS.  YOU CAN SIGN UP VOTERS. YOU CAN DRIVE PEOPLE TO THE POLLS. YOU CANBE A JUDGE AT THE POLLS.  YOU CAN WORK FOR A POLITCAL CANDIDATE THAT REPRESENTS YOUR IDEALS.

Think of where we are headed and get involved.

I provide the link to Keith Olbermann's site http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/ to let everyone know that we could all be in danger of losing the liberties we have treasured since we learned about this wonderful country as young children.  With the potential loss of Habeas Corpus ( the right to be brought before a judge to hear why one has been imprisoned or charged) and unitary power of the executive ( executive ability to decide what laws will be followed no matter what the legislative branch has voted) etc. there, is a danger of living in a country that we would not recognize.  We need to peacefully, morally, and ethically let our representatives know that we want to continue with the Democratic Republic of the United State of America.  How can we let them know?  By voting, by calling, by emailing and writing.  In this next election on November 7, 2006 if we all work together we can create a balance where in all voices in this country will be heard.  If we remain silent and do not respond in a positive and energetic way what we will be left with is the consequences of our silence and lack of envolvement.  I am reminded of a poem which tells about the consequences of not speaking out and not caring about the other person.
